SOUTH MANCHESTER JAMATKHANA

Creative redesign of an existing building in South Manchester to meet the practical and spiritual needs of the Ismaili community. This scheme involves extensive remodelling to form a prayer hall, learning areas and inclusive community facilities. 

The architectural design is inspired by key religious principles, focussing on the power of the natural world through a central running fountain and clerestory windows to introduce shafts of daylight. A restrained colour palette combines with warm copper surfaces and use of traditional symbolism to create a spiritual, calming and welcoming environment, all set within external landscaping.  

This design seeks to balance the practical requirements of a multi-generation worship space with key spiritual principles and will create an inspirational setting for use by religious and local communities.
