MIDLAND HOTEL
Serving Manchester since its opening in 1903, this magnificent Edwardian hotel is instantly recognisable for its richly detailed architecture and distinctive granite and terracotta façade.
Following an arson attack, Atelier MB was appointed to restore the badly damaged Mount Street elevation of the listed building. Guided by archival research and working closely with stone specialists, the craftmanship and materials of the original façade were recreated with exceptional care and attention to detail. Individual pieces of Shap and Peterhead polished granite were sourced from the original quarries to match the historic stonework, faithfully recreating damaged elements and seamlessly integrating them into the façade. This project required an uncompromising approach to authenticity, restoring one of the city’s most beloved historic buildings to its former glory.
A Manchester icon meticulously restored.
