BLOSSOM MARKET ANCOATS
An unassuming MOT garage in Ancoats Conservation Area, cleverly repurposed as a bustling marketplace for small independents.
Designing within an existing structure, we have re-purposed this mid-century garage using industrial materials and clean lines. Opening up the large entrances to either side of the building creates an internal link between two parallel streets, lined with individual market units. We are connecting the inside to the outside by adding new rooflights, a street-side grab and go counter and fitting large windows for looking in and seeing out. The stall spaces are self-contained and flexible enough to suit a broad range of traders. Out of hours the whole building can be cleverly packed away and neatly secured.
This project shows that heritage isn’t just about listed buildings, it’s also about the distinctive in-between places, and we can’t wait to see this one find its new purpose.
