St Mary's Church, Hulme

This project follows on from our work at St George’s Church, Hulme and involves the conversion of this grade 2* listed church into 14 apartments over 2 phases.

Three or four storey residential ‘pods’ are sculpted to fit into the side aisles accessed between the arches of the nave to leave the existing structure and volume intact.

Inside, the apartment overlooks a void allowing the existing window to give daylight to each level. The original arches are exposed and appear in bedrooms and bathrooms, with the addition of rooflights giving views up to the spire.

Apartment 1, the show flat, was completed in March 2005 (dressed by John Lewis).
