Stenecourt Synagogue

Stenecourt, or the Manchester Great and New Synagogue, is based in Broughton Park in the heart of a vibrant and growing Jewish community. It was originally based in the historic Great Synagogue in Cheetham Hill and is one of the oldest serving congregations in Britain.

The brief was to refurbish the main spaces in the synagogue including the main prayer hall (Shul) and the ancillary facilities. These had become tired and dated. The congregation had identified the need for more space and this was satisfied with the addition of a new hall at the side together with a private garden.

This was a bold proposal designed to reflect this forward thinking orthodox community
