St George's Church, Hulme
St George’s Church on Chester Road, Manchester had been a Commissioner’s Church, but a declining local population and physical isolation due to nearby road layouts lead to its closure in 1984.
This is an early and prime example of how we were are able to regenerate important listed buildings by rigorous research and inventive design.
We were very keen not to floor over the nave- as had been common in many similar church conversions, and by isolating the residential units to the sides were were able to retain the essence of the space and provide several three storey very interesting residential units. The tower has a seven storey flat in contained within it!
