The Scala, Withington
Our aim was to to heal the urban fabric with this mixed use scheme in the centre of Withington in South Manchester. The building will provide some much needed residential accommodation for key workers at the nearby "Christie" hospital together with a ground floor retail unit.
We have sought to design a contemporary building that adds to the street scene, reflecting the importance of this site which is in a Conservation Area and adjacent to a listed building.
The name derives from the former cinema that once stood on the site originally opened in 1912 and called The Scala.
The Scala now has planning approval following a succesful appeal in May 2016 and we are very excited that the job is currently on site courtesy of the developer, Britannia Properties.
