Stand House

Built in the 18th century, this striking brick-built villa originally stood in formal gardens with extensive greenhouses, stables and staff accommodation. Whilst it has remained a family home, its context has been much altered over its lifetime and the evolution of its form was not easy to read.

Atelier Heritage produced a baseline historic report, delving into the history of the house and tracking how it has developed over time.

The assigning of heritage significance to each element shaped design proposals for owners who wished to enhance the house by replacing the modern garage and conservatory extensions and bringing the basement back in to use.

Upon completion of design proposals, our Heritage Statement accompanied a Listed Building Application. Striking modern interventions reference the existing historic property and internal spaces are enhanced whilst protecting the original built fabric. These proposals represent the latest chapter in the life of this fascinating building, ensuring it continues to be an impressive and practical home for its owners.
