There has been a ‘Sam’s Chop House’ in Manchester since the 1800’s and its home has been in Cavendish House since 1958. The favoured watering hole for L S Lowry, Harold Riley and many others, few people noticed that the top two floors were empty and in poor state, having been poorly repaired following bomb damage during WW2.

For the new owners, we have been the architects and heritage consultants in the team that has been granted planning permission and Listed Building Consent for a significant upgrade and restoration of the building and the addition of a further two floors and a roof terrace in a contemporary construction.

 

The 1940s roof and top floor will be removed and new floors formed by the structure spanning across the building, avoiding having to intrude into Sam’s except in a small way where the new lift and stairs replace the existing.
