Collier Street Baths, Salford
Atelier Heritage and Atelier MB were commissioned by Salford City Council to produce an Options Appraisal for the listed former baths and laundry by architect Charles Worthington.
The site functioned as a baths for only a short time before it was repurposed for storage, gradually descending into dereliction. Partially lost to the route of Trinity Way, the baths retain large internal proportions which, along with their condition, present a challenge for re-use. Research and appraisal informed a series of different options and re-imagined the baths as a site for innovative energy production to serve the locality, with excess heat harnessed in a horticultural growing environment.
