Amazon House was originally built as shipping and packing warehousing, this basement space later used as a shop before being converted to a bar. Atelier MB has redesigned the unit as office space for an expanding media company providing a multi-purpose space maximising the canal-side location. Red brick walls, structural columns, timber beams and a glazed lightwell have all been exposed and retained. The bespoke workspace features a kitchen and seating area, glazed box meeting room, meeting pods and open plan desk space. New interventions have been carefully designed around existing 19th century features and make the most of the large windows overlooking the waterway. The finished unit is 191 square metres of flexible and unique space, retaining its Mancunian character and ensuring this Grade II listed building remains fit for decades of future use.
