Ancoats Dispensary

Atelier MB were the appointed architects for an Architectural Heritage Fund grant funded options appraisal for this long-term vacant building in Manchester’s New Islington. The last remaining building from the former Ancoats Hospital site, the dispensary dates from the 1870s and is Grade II listed. Working alongside Heritage Works Building Preservation Trust, a number of architectural options were explored; ranging from conversion to offices, an apart-hotel and foyer facility, to stabilisation of the façade with open air uses to the rear. Whilst the report identified significant conservation deficits, it has proved to be a useful tool in future considerations for this important piece of Ancoats history.
